When writing posts for the website, I was often called upon to re-work content submitted by subject matter experts to make it more understandable for a general audience.

Here’s a before-and-after of a public meeting notice, which became a calendar listing on the website. City planners wanted to invite the public to attend a meeting and offer feedback on a plan that would affect future construction along a major road through the city.

Before

The original post contained long sentences and city planning jargon that the average reader was unlikely to understand.

After

I worked with the planners to ensure that the new version was still accurate in the details, but more “reader-friendly.”
